DIET & NUTRITION FAQs

What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

Dietitians specialize in designing nutrition programs and treating disease-related malnutrition. They must meet rigorous academic and professional standards, including degrees in nutrition and dietetics and clinical placements. These professionals work in various settings including hospitals, community health, and food service, focusing on dietetics to improve health and manage diseases like diabetes and obesity through tailored nutritional interventions. Dietitians must be licensed in many countries, distinguishing them from broader "nutritionists," ensuring they provide scientifically grounded dietary counsel across diverse populations.

Nutritionists offer guidance on food and nutrition and its impact on health, with some specializing in areas like sports nutrition or public health. Unlike dietitians, who are required to have formal education and certifications, the title "nutritionist" isn't regulated in many countries, allowing anyone to use it regardless of their qualifications. This discrepancy highlights the importance of verifying the credentials of nutrition advisors, particularly those offering specialized services or promoting potentially untested health concepts. For reliable nutritional guidance, look for professionals like Registered Dietitian Nutritionists or Certified Clinical Nutritionists, who are certified to provide evidence-based dietary advice and treatment plans.

What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?

The term "nutritionist" encompasses a wide range of professionals who offer guidance on healthy eating, while "dietitian" specifically refers to nutritionists who have undergone specialized training and certification. A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist combines both of those rolls. RDNs are healthcare professionals with at least bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics, including supervised clinical experience and a national examination.

Is healthy food more expensive?

The perception that healthy food is more expensive is common, but it's important to consider the broader economic perspective. Initially, healthier foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, might seem pricier than processed foods. However, when you consider the long-term health benefits and potential savings on healthcare costs, eating healthy can actually be more cost-effective.

We also help teach you the most cost-effective ways to eat healthy, from buying bulk to finding specific brands and stores that are just as healthy but can be cheaper.

What if I don't have time to cook all of my meals?

The concern about not having time to cook is a common barrier to eating healthy, but it doesn't have to prevent you from maintaining a nutritious diet. Our program acknowledges this challenge and is designed to provide you with the tools necessary to manage your meals efficiently, without needing to cook every single meal.

We offer strategies like meal prepping, which involves preparing meals in bulk ahead of time. This can be done just once or twice a week, saving you time on busy days. Additionally, we suggest quick and healthy recipes that can be made in less than 30 minutes, and we recommend healthy, minimal-prep or no-prep food options that can be bought from stores.

Furthermore, our program includes guidance on choosing healthy pre-packaged meals and tips for making smarter choices when eating out. This approach ensures that you can maintain a nutritious diet even when your schedule doesn't allow time for traditional cooking. This way, you can stay on track with your dietary goals without the stress of preparing every meal from scratch.

What if I’ve gained the weight back after every diet I have ever done?

It's completely understandable to feel frustrated if you've experienced weight gain after previous diets. It's a common issue many face due to the temporary nature of many diet programs. However, this isn't just another diet, it is a nutrition education program to provide you with the tools to be successful in the long term.

By understanding the principles of healthy eating, portion control, and the importance of nutrient density, you can make informed choices that support sustained weight management. Our aim is to help you develop a deeper relationship with food, where you are in control of your choices, leading to lasting change. This isn't about restrictive eating or short-term gains; it's about building a healthy lifestyle that you can maintain easily and indefinitely.

What types of clients do you work with?
