AGE-APPROPRIATE ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

BUILDING DURABLE ATHLETES

The Athlete Ready Juniors & Minis Programs provide the building blocks for young athletes. Our fun and engaging sessions establish coordination development, relative strength, speed, agility, and power. The Minis program (ages 6–8) is play-based and meant as a base for more complex training as children grow. Junior athletes (ages 9–12) are introduced to the basics of the squat, hinge, pull, push, and core training.

With our Youth Athletic Performance Program for teenagers we work on perfecting form, gaining muscle mass, increasing endurance, and maintaining optimal movement patterns.

For all of our youth athletes, our mission is to build resilient bodies for the future. Many programs out there unfortunately sacrifice longevity at the alter of misguided performance metrics. Too many youth athletes either suffer frequent injuries or destroy their bodies by the time they are adults, leading to short careers and a lifetime of chronic pain. We go beyond performance, and focus on optimal physical development, injury risk reduction, athletic longevity, and a healthy pain-free body for life.

SKILLS, Scholarships, cOMMUNITY

The Playbook to Greatness

For us, youth sports are about learning life's big lessons—how to pick yourself up after a fall, the importance of teamwork, and pushing your limits. They’re more than just developing a winner’s mindset and dominating as a competitor. They're about developing healthy bodies and intelligent minds. They’re about building community and making friends.

We believe in setting a healthy foundation, promoting life skill development, and succeeding academically. For many of our athletes working with us is about getting a scholarship and thriving as a collegiate student-athlete.

On a bigger scale, sports can be a unifier, breaking down the walls between us, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect. It's about more than just the game; it's about building a better, more cohesive society, one kick, one throw, one jump at a time.

YOUTH SPORTS PERFORMANCE COACHING FAQs

How does youth sports coaching differ from normal training programs?

Youth sports coaching is tailored to the critical growth periods of young athletes, focusing on enhancing coordination, balance, flexibility, and endurance.

Unlike adult programs, which often emphasize maximizing physiological qualities, youth training prioritizes fun, skill discovery, and the development of a strong foundational base.

Our programs are customized to account for individual growth patterns and maturity levels, ensuring that each child's unique developmental needs are met.

How are your training programs age-appropriate?

We base our youth sports performance programs on The Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. This is a framework that ensures the holistic and progressive development of athletes from early childhood through all phases of adulthood. It is structured around several sequential stages that cater to the physical, psychological, and sports-specific needs of athletes as they grow and mature. The stages range from introducing basic motor skills to young children in a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment, to optimizing performance in high-performance athletes, designing programs for late-adolescence and early-adulthood; and encouraging ongoing fitness and health throughout life. One of the primary goals of this model is to promote lifelong engagement in sports and physical activity, whether for competitive athletics or a healthy lifestyle.

For child and youth athletes, each stage of the LTAD model is designed to match the developmental age and readiness of the athlete, rather than their chronological age alone. This approach helps to minimize the risks of overtraining, injuries, and burnout, while maximizing physical and mental development. The model often emphasizes a multi-sport approach in early stages to develop a broad athletic base. Too much single-sport focus in childhood can lead to asymmetrical physical and skill development. As athletes progress through the stages, the model allows for increased specialization. This structured yet flexible development pathway helps athletes achieve their personal best in sports, while also equipping them with the skills and habits necessary for lifelong physical activity.

What should young athletes expect during their first training session?

During their first training session, young athletes can expect a comprehensive introduction to our sports performance environment, starting with a warm welcome from the coaching staff and an overview of the session's goals. We conduct a comprehensive initial assessment to gauge current fitness levels, skills, and potential areas for improvement, ensuring a personalized training plan.

The first session will also likely include a mix of basic conditioning and movement exercises, skill-based drills, and a recovery period to introduce athletes to the training regimen gradually. This initial experience is designed to set expectations, familiarize athletes with the coaches and training process, and establish a foundation for their athletic development journey.

How do parents track the progress of their child in training?

Parents can expect regular updates and reports provided by our coaching staff, detailing improvements, challenges, and milestones. Our app allows parents to access their child's performance data, including statistics on physical performance, skill development, and participation in training sessions.

We like to have periodic meetings or consultations as needed to discuss the child's progress in depth and to outline future goals and strategies for development. This multi-faceted approach ensures that our parents are well-informed about their child's journey and can actively support their growth in our programs.

What are your qualifications to coach youth athletes?

We excel at youth sports training not only because of our passion and dedication but also because we are experienced and educated. We have been working with youth athletes for over a decade. Our founder and co-owner has multiple certifications from the International Youth Conditioning Association (Youth Fitness Specialist, Youth Speed And Agility Specialist, and Sport Nutrition Specialist).

All our expert coaches all have top qualifications, including BA, BS, and MS and certifications from CSCS, NASM, IYCA, USA-Weightlifting, Exos, FRC, GOATA, and NFPT among others.

What is your schedule of youth classes?

We offer classes after school on weekdays and in the morning on Saturdays. We have a wider range of time-slots in the summer and also have sports-specific summer camps. Please give us a call today to find out about our current schedule.

What are your prices?

Prices depend on frequency and commitment. The more classes or sessions per week and the longer the commitment, the lower the price. We also have discounts when nutrition and/or massage are included.

We understand the initial hesitations one might have—whether it's concerns about cost or being hesitant about commitment—but like so many of our youth athletes and their parents have attested, they've gotten exceptional value and are glad they joined.

Please call us today to find out about our current rates.
