INDIVIDUALIZED TRAINING

Track speed is different from field and court speed, which are all different from the ability to cut or juke or jump high. Therefore, speed and agility training should not take a cookie-cutter approach. The Athlete Ready Speed and Agility Program is tailored to individual athletes and their specific sport and position.

Standardized approaches to speed & agility training also do not account for when in the season an athlete should peak. Our training programs are competition-based, meaning that we get you to peak at the right times during your season, including for multi-sport athletes.

We also strongly believe that speed and agility training should be done by building a strong, supple, and safe framework for the athlete. This includes strength development, optimizing movement patters, and injury risk reduction techniques.

SPEED & AGILITY COACHING FAQs

What do you mean by agility & agility training?

Agility is a multifaceted physical attribute that involves the rapid and precise coordination of balance, speed, strength, and endurance to change the body's position efficiently. This complex skill is built on several core components: Balance, which is the skill to maintain equilibrium whether in motion or stationary; Speed, which refers to moving the body or its parts swiftly; Strength, which is the capacity of muscles to overcome resistance; and Coordination, which combines body movements in sync with sensory feedback. This ability is critical not just in daily activities but also plays a pivotal role in various sports, where the specific requirements of agility can vary significantly based on the demands of each sport.

Agility training for sports is a specialized form of physical training that enhances an athlete's ability to move quickly, change direction efficiently, and maintain control under pressure. It integrates a series of exercises that focus on improving balance, coordination, speed, reflexes, strength, and endurance. This type of training is tailored to the demands of various sports, using drills that mimic sport-specific movements and scenarios. Agility training not only helps athletes perform better but also reduces the risk of injuries by improving the body’s ability to react to sudden changes in direction.

How are your speed & agility training programs age-appropriate?

We base our youth sports performance programs on The Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. This is a framework that ensures the holistic and progressive development of athletes from early childhood through all phases of adulthood. It is structured around several sequential stages that cater to the physical, psychological, and sports-specific needs of athletes as they grow and mature. The stages range from introducing basic motor skills to young children in a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment, to optimizing performance in high-performance athletes, designing programs for late-adolescence and early-adulthood; and encouraging ongoing fitness and health throughout life. One of the primary goals of this model is to promote lifelong engagement in sports and physical activity, whether for competitive athletics or a healthy lifestyle.

For child and youth athletes, each stage of the LTAD model is designed to match the developmental age and readiness of the athlete, rather than their chronological age alone. This approach helps to minimize the risks of overtraining, injuries, and burnout, while maximizing physical and mental development. The model often emphasizes a multi-sport approach in early stages to develop a broad athletic base. Too much single-sport focus in childhood can lead to asymmetrical physical and skill development. As athletes progress through the stages, the model allows for increased specialization. This structured yet flexible development pathway helps athletes achieve their personal best in sports, while also equipping them with the skills and habits necessary for lifelong physical activity.

We’ve had an outstanding experience working with Athlete Ready over the years. They have played a major role in helping our program develop stronger, faster, and more resilient athletes, with a strong emphasis on injury prevention. Their approach is innovative, structured, and incredibly motivating for our players. This past year, after finishing 4–6 for three consecutive seasons, we partnered closely with them to build a more intentional strength and conditioning program. The results spoke for themselves, we improved to 7–3 and made a run to the semifinals. Athlete Ready has been a huge part of our success, and their commitment to developing athletes both physically and mentally sets them apart. I highly recommend them to any program looking to take the next step.

In 2023 I was referred to Veronica Castillo for nutrition help. I thought that would simply be her telling me what to eat. We had a call every week. Veronica quickly taught me there is much more to nutrition than cutting calories. I have struggled with my weight since I was a kid, which lead to be being a diabetic in adult life. Veronica didn’t just hand out a meal plan. She asked me lots of questions like what foods do you like, what foods do you dislike, what do you struggle with when it comes to food, what stressors trigger eating? She asked about my work and home life and how those affected my eating. Once she had the information, then we started working on different simple things such as increasing protein and eating whole food which is most of what you hear. Simple, right? Of course, it was easier said than done. I had to overcome myself sabotaging myself. Veronica patiently kept asking me questions which forced me to do some serious self-evaluations for what I was doing to hurt my progress. Fast forward to November 2025. Just before Thanksgiving she issued a challenge-don’t let the “holiday season” sabotage me so I would not have to start again in January. I accepted the challenge. In addition, I decided to cut sodas and sugary coffee drinks from my life which was a huge change. I did super good eating well in November and December. January rolled around and I lost exactly 0.1 pound! Instead of getting discouraged, I listened to Veronica. She suggested a food sensitivity test to see what foods were causing inflammation leading to the lack of weight loss. I had my blood drawn and found out I had sensitivity to peanuts, cashews, and dairy with a slight sensitivity to beef. Although it was hard, I trusted what I was taught and I gave up those things which I loved to help myself. Veronica said it would take about three months for the inflammation to go down. Last week I had another In Body scan done and I have lost 10 pounds since late January! I could not have made these life-changing decisions without the education, phycology and encouragement Veronica gave me. She does not like to take credit for the changes I have made, but she deserves it. For anyone struggling with their weight and all the problems that come with it, I highly recommend working with Veronica. It will not be easy, but you can accomplish it with the education she offers, her questions which lead to your self-evaluation to find the reasons for making excuses so you can overcome them. Most importantly, have patience which I learned through trusting in what Veronica taught me. I know I still have a way to go to get where I need to be before hitting maintenance weight, but I now have the skills, confidence in myself, and the support and encouragement provided by Veronica. Because she is humble, I know she won’t like me saying it, but I truly believe she saved my life. By the way, she’s also an Athletic Performance Coach! More on that to follow.

My daughter started playing soccer later than average. She was picked by a high level class b team because she was coachable. We knew she needed extra training to catch up. We trusted Jared and Athlete Ready to give her the proper intense training she needed. Fast forward, and next we knew, she was offered a college scholarship and played four years of college soccer. The individual attention and encouragement my daughter received definitely helped her earn a college athletic scholarship. We are forever grateful for Athlete Ready!

If I could give this place 100 stars I would! Ive been going to Athlete Ready since 2016. As a professional athlete this place has been a complete game changer for me. Not only have they helped me get stronger for my sport (Jiu-Jitsu) but they have also helped me heal any injuries that I have had through fighting and build my stress management capacity. This place is more than a "gym" it is a place that will teach you how to manage your stress that we all accumulate through day to day life. The coaches here are all around fantastic, not only are they highly skilled and professional but they are also truly invested in your success as an athlete and an individual! They will hold you accountable all while cheering you on and supporting you every step of the way. The community is welcoming, strong, uplifting, family friendly, positive, and motivating. It doesn't matter if you're completely new to exercise or if you're a pro, this place will help you countless ways. The facility is always clean, and the equipment is always in working order which is different from most other workout places or gyms. No matter what your goal is for coming, I highly recommend Athlete Ready. Among many other things, one thing I love is that they have an actual tried and true structure and path for progress. They aren't just giving you random exercises to make you feel "tired". They have a mapped out plan in place that is scientifically based, well thought through, easy to follow, fun and effective. Thank you Athlete Ready team for being a key figure in helping me win a black belt world championship in jiu jitsu in 2017 and for being a part of my success ever since then. You all are the best.

I have grown up with the owner of Athlete Ready. Not only was he one of the best athletes I grew up with in one of Albuquerques most athletic generations, but he has built a company that is fully dedicated to helping athletes become their best selves as humans and athletes. I have also gotten to know the dietitian at the clinic who helped me learn to eat and change my relationship with food. She took the time to understand my struggles and my chronic health issues and she helped me build a plan to help me be the healthiest self I could be. She is a pure badass and she makes eating a lifestyle and helps you enjoy food. Going to Athlete Ready is an investment well worth it.

I've had an amazing experience with AR over the past several years as they’ve trained my 15-year-old son, Jaden. He plays football, basketball, and runs track, and the difference in his strength, speed, and overall confidence has been incredible. The coaches do a great job of tailoring workouts that translate directly to his performance across all three sports. I’ve seen real improvements in his explosiveness on the field, agility on the court, and endurance on the track. More importantly, they’ve helped him build discipline, work ethic, and confidence that goes beyond sports. The environment is positive, motivating, and supportive, and it’s clear the coaches genuinely care about each athlete’s growth and success. I’m so grateful for everything they’ve done for my son and highly recommend Athlete Ready to any parent looking to invest in their athlete’s development!
